The Vice Secretary of the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association Ms. Manthri Coswatte, has pinned the poppy flower on Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at the Prime Minister’s Office today (30) morning marking the Armed Forces Commemorative Poppy Day celebration organized annually by the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen’s Association.

The income from the sale of poppy flowers will be allocated for the welfare of retired and disabled officers of the armed forces. The Poppy celebration is held to commemorate the military personnel who died in the First and Second World Wars as well as the internal war conflicts in Sri Lanka, and this celebration is also held in Sri Lanka on a Sunday around the 11th of November.

I am delighted to learn that the Sri Lankan National Netball Team, currently competing in the 13th Asia Cup Netball Tournament in Bangalore, India, has reached the final by overcoming a formidable Hong Kong team in the semi-finals.
