H.E. Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General of BIMSTEC, paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at the Prime Minister’s Office on February 6, 2025.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya welcomed the Ambassador Pandey and expressed Sri Lanka’s continued commitment to regional cooperation within BIMSTEC. The discussions focused on key areas of collaboration, including health, human resource development, and digitalization, where Sri Lanka has played a leading role.

Financial assistance from this year’s budget to develop coconut cultivation

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated in Parliament today (05) that the coconut shortage has arisen due to the fact that no government has had a proper policy to develop coconut cultivation.

The Prime Minister stated that the current government is formulating a proper policy to develop coconut cultivation and that several short-term programmes are being followed in this regard.
She also stated that it has been decided to allocate more money to develop coconut cultivation from this year’s budget.

The President’s Fund is Administered in Accordance with the Law, Ensuring No Room for Misuse – Prime Minister Declares in Parliament.

The government plans to simplify the application process for the President’s Fund, allowing citizens to apply at the Divisional Secretariat Division level, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced in Parliament on February 5.

To achieve this, the President’s Fund is expanding its application acceptance services across all 341 Divisional Secretariat Divisions, facilitating payments through Divisional Secretariat Offices, and providing essential training to officers handling fund-related matters.

Additionally, a new digital system will be introduced to streamline these operations. This system will enable online applications, making the fund more accessible and efficient for the public.

First Printed Copy of National Business Directory Presented to Prime Minister

A new javelin for Paralympics world record holder Samitha Dulan
